The Heritage Room

The Heritage Room houses family records and photographs, scrapbooks and copies of original documents relating to the pioneer and early settlers families of Wandin, the development of the district, the restoration of Mont De Lancey and the development of the museum. A short introductory video on Wandin's Early Years plays on the big screen. The Heritage Room also houses an impressive collection of mechanical kitchenalia (apple corers, mincers, mixers etc) dating from the late 1800's to the 1920's.

Functions in The Heritage Room

The Heritage Room can accommodate a wide range of functions. We can organise with Les Chesselles French Restaurant to cater for your needs especially for small conferences offering total flexibility to ensure a professional presentation.

The space can be made available for a variety of functions (with catering) including Meetings, Corporate Functions, Workshops, Christmas Parties, Video Nights, Needlework Groups, Friendship Groups, Historical Societies.

Facilities include:

  • Seating in theatre configuration for 80 delegates
  • Fully catered functions on site
  • Secretarial facilities, including photocopying, facsimilie.

  • Large screen rear projection television
  • Lectern

The Heritage Room can also be used for family gatherings, and product promotions and launches.

"Arte on Yarra"

Exhibition at the MDL Gallery from Wed 14th April to Sun 9th May 2010.

An exhibition celebrating a mother's journey, exploring colour and the beauty of nature as the river flows towards the sea. Specialising in silk paintings & scarves, enhanced with a collection of mixed media paintings by Julia Goodwin.

(The Gallery is open Wed to Sun inclusive, 10-4.30pm, with $5 pp entry, which includes self-serve coffee & tea). Closed Mondays & Tuesdays, however, Group bookings for these days may be arranged.

# 17 - TEMPERANCE SOCIETIES, 1879 - BAND OF HOPE
Amongst the early settlers were some who were aware of the dangers and temptations of strong drink, and, resolving to combat by their example and influence that great evil, they formed a Band of Hope Society. The chief promoter to this wise movement was Mr Wm Read of Gruyere, ably assisted by his sons and neighbors, their object being to teach the rising generation the principles of total abstinence. In the year 1879 the Rev John Barningham, the stationed Methodist minister, arrived in the district, and with Mr Walter Liddy as secretary, rendered much assistance in reviving the movement
