Visiting the Blacksmiths

Live blacksmithing can be seen at Mont De Lancey each Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday between 10.00 am - 4.30 pm. The smithies will have up to 12 forges running and are happy to explain what they are making, and answer any questions you may have.

You’ll easily find the busy blacksmiths' shop at Mont De Lancey – just listen out for the sound of the anvil’s ring! When you step inside, you’ll be transported back in time to the days of the local village smithie.

The blacksmiths sell the products they make; you’ll find everything from candlestick holders to fireside sets, modern day sculptures and art. As each item is unique, they make gorgeous gifts.

They even sell the tools of the trade, so enthusiasts come from far and wide to buy the equipment they need to set up their own forge at home.

In the 1990s, Mont De Lancey homestead added a blacksmith’s workshop to their grounds as a place for local blacksmiths to work, as well as pass on their skills to future generations. Visitors now get the rare opportunity to watch this ancient skill in action.

Keen to try your hand at blacksmithing?, Four times a year the blacksmiths run a course over 4 consecutive Saturdays onsite at Mont De Lancey. Contact them to find out more about their courses or to ask questions.
